Varese - Lombardia
In Lombardia region, close to Prealpi range, lies a little city named Varese. In this part of the region the environment is beautiful and gentle, there are several lakes and forests where it is possible to have fantastic trails.
Therefore it seems that Varese name came from water word – Vara in Celtic language. The territory ruled by Varese is characterized by the presence of seven hills and there are also some evidences of human presence which date back to prehistoric period.
Nowadays the little city of Varese is inhabited mainly by the bourgeoisie and its oldest part is characterized by the presence of several villas owned by nobles until the early XX century.
Strolling along the alleys of Varese is a wonderful experience. The downcity has many galleries where you can walk and admire shop windows selling wonderful clothes, handicraft and delicious local food.
Worthy of a visit is the Basilica di San Vittore built up among XVI and XVII century on the ruins of a former Romanesque church. The two wooden pulpits on either side of the main altar are really wonderful, as well the organ. They were built by Bernardino Castelli on 1675 year.
