Valle dei Templi - Sicilia
A leap back 2500 years with a time machine! If you are looking for an unbelievable experience like this, you must visit Valle dei Templi located near Agrigento – in the Sicilia region.
But before we begin with the description of our “journey through time”, we give you some advice: the best periods to visit Valle dei Templi are spring and autumn, when temperatures are mild, and the place is not crowded. In addition, in spring you can observe the flowering, a very beautiful spectacle!
Valle dei Templi is a place where there are fantastic monuments of the Hellenic era and some of which are well preserved. It dates back to 600 BC and reaches up to the Roman dominion.
BBofItaly believes that the most impressive monuments are Tempio di Giunone, Tempio della Concordia and Tempio di Ercole and among the three the second is the best preserved. These three will give you an idea of the true power and grandeur of that era and, believe us, you will never forget this experience.
In Valle dei Templi there is also a fantastic environment called Kolymbethra. It is an ancient large artificial basin, dating back to 480 BC, used for collecting water. Later it was transformed into an orchard and vegetable garden, with different species of plants.
Nowadays, in this garden there are rare trees and various plants of oranges, mandarins, lemons and grapefruits, as well as some prickly pears. Walking in this environment, enjoying nature, is something that you cannot miss.
If you want to enjoy the sea and its beaches, we suggest you visiting the hamlet of Punta Secca, not so far from Valle dei Templi. Here you can spend moments of complete relaxation, with a wonderful landscape.
