Val Pilotera - Valchiavenna Lombardia

If you are dreaming about a savage and lonely valley, you must have a hiking in Val Pilotera a real wilderness ! Something that makes you beside yourself ! In this area you can walk for hours without meeting anyone.

Val Pilotera is a very long valley, and hardly you can climb it and go back in a single day. It is located in Lombardia region, close to Valchiavenna and the Switzerland border. The path that goes into the valley starts from a very little hamlet named Orlo. It runs mostly flat until a little bridge which crosses a stream (Bogia de Pesciadel). From this point on the slope of the path increases and it overcomes a wall left by an ancient glacier.

At the end of this first wall, you reach a fantastic bivouac called Lavorerio. Here the path overcomes a second wall and allow you to reach the head of Val Pilotera, encompassed by several peaks.

At this point you can easily reach Lago di Piodella and then Sella di Piodella. The pond is in an awesome position. From there you can see all the mountain of Val Bodengo and mainly Pizzo Cavregasco.

Sella di Piodella is a wide pass which goes to the Forcella di Strem. The latter is located in the highest part of Valle di Strem which comes on from Val Bodengo and it borders with Switzerland.

BBofItaly warmly suggests you to have this hiking experience in Val Pilotera, spending a night at Lavorerio bivouac. This will allow you to admire shining stars at night, and fully enjoy this fantastic environment.
