Val Martello - Alto Adige

A gorgeous side valley of Val Venosta (Venosta valley), curiously named Val Martello (Hammer valley – Martelltal). This area is contained in the Stelvio Nation Park and is characterized by the presence of Monte Cevedale (3769 meters high) and its minor peaks.

In the last part of Val Martello there is a dam which creates a beautiful lake named Lago di Gioveretto, completely encompassed by thick forests. An unbelievable environment.

From this point starts a particular path called Sentiero Glaciologico (Glaciological Path). It winds through the thick forests, and then runs along meadows presents where in the ancient past there was a big glacier that plunged from Monte Cevedale.

The path gets altitude very slowly, with a gorgeous view on the peaks of Monte Cevedale range. Gaining meters and meters the environment changes dramatically and it becomes very harsh, with big stones and gravel left by the shrinkage of the glacier.

Close to the 3000 meters of altitude, the view of the glaciers that plunge from Punta Martello (Martello peak – 3357 meters) and Cima Venezia (Venezia peak – 3386 meters) is unbelievable.

In this area there is also a fantastic glacial lake. Its shimmering water gives it a particular beauty. This site is truly nothing short of extraordinary. You cannot miss this experience !
