Turlin and Champailler - Valle D'Aosta

Alpeggi are always very fascinating. In the past these buildings were used as shelters for shepherds whom spent their summer in mountains at high altitudes, looking after herds of cows and goats.

For this reason Alpeggi were very poor constructions and built mainly on very large meadows, encompassed by awesome landscapes. During the last decades they have been abandoned for better organized structures, but in some cases local population restored these Alpeggi transforming them into fantastic cottages, but keeping their original body.

On the northern flank of Pointe de la Pierre (a mountain of 2653 meters of altitude located in Valle d’Aosta region), there are some of these refurbished Alpeggi. BBofItaly focused on those of Turlin and Champailler, which can be reached starting from Pompiod, a tiny village not so far from Aosta city.

The path runs through the forest and it is very steep and narrow. You have to overcome 900 meters in altitude to reach the two awesome Alpeggi where the landscape is incredible. So the trip is not easy !

During our hike the sky was not completely clear, but there were some clouds, and this made the view even more beautiful. The few cottages present in the two Alpeggi were truly unbelievable, perfectly restored and merged in a splendid nature with a perfect silence broken only by the sound of the wind and wild animals, whom populate the surrounding forest. Something that you cannot miss and where you can spend some time in completely relaxation, finding yourself again.
