In Abruzzo region there is an amazing hamlet named Santo Stefano di Sessanio with only 104 inhabitants. This place is really a jewel and it has been completely rebuilt exactly as it was before the terrible earthquake on 2009.

It is located near Campo Imperatore, a wonderful natural park characterized by the presence of Gran Sasso, a huge massif with an altitude of 2912 meters. Therefore Santo Stefano di Sessanio is surrounded by a pristine environment.

The origins of  Santo Stefano di Sessanio date back to the IX century but of course the hamlet expanded during the Medieval period and over the years grew up mainly around its tower.

The first evidence of this tower dates back to the XIV century and it has been built on the higher part of the hamlet. This building breakdown during the earthquake on 2009 and it has been completely rebuilt as it was.

Palazzo del Capitano is also noteworthy. It is a splendid palace from the Renaissance period. Also the main fortified gate of the hamlet named Porta Urbica, is worth of visiting. Crossing it you enter in a fantastic Medieval world.

Strolling through the alleys of Santo Stefano di Sessanio is truly unique experience you absolutely shouldn’t miss !
