Chiesa di Santa Maria della Strada

It is one of a kind ! We were truly fascinated by this church, located close the Matrice hamlet in Campobasso district – Molise region. It is a building immersed in a small, wonderful and well-preserved park, therefore in a fantastic environment dominated by the green color.

But during the Medieval period the church was surrounded by a little hamlet, perhaps because its inhabitants were after some safety and protection.

The Santa Maria della Strada church dates back to the XII century. It is an incredible monument and each its corner and stone with unique decorations, tell us a wonderful story of Middle Age.

This story has been studied by experts with some difficulty, because the past of the church is often wrapped in mystery. This detail makes the Santa Maria della Strada church even more intriguing and interesting.

Of course the structure of this church if very simple as it features a Romanesque architecture. The bell tower is not part of the church, but it was built few meters from the church itself.
