Rifugio Averau - Trentino Alto Adige region

Averau shelter is located in a gorgeous position encompassed by Dolomiti di Belluno and it is not that far from the well-known Cortina d’Ampezzo village.

It was built on Passo Nuvolau and it is at 2413 meters of altitude. The building dates back to the late 1800s and during the First World War it was completely destroyed. Nowadays it is a fantastic and modern shelter that during the winter is also used by skiers.

There are several paths that lead to Rifugio Averau, and we of BBofItaly.it have chosen the one that starts from Passo Giau. This pass connects two valley: Val Boite and Val Cordevole.

Starting from Passo Giau the path is very easy and it overcomes only 177 meters of level, but the environment and landscape you can observe walking along it, are fantastic. On sides of Passo del Nuvolau where the shelter is located, there are the mountain Nuvolau (2574 meters high) and mountain Averau (2648 meters high).

The path winds at foot of mountain Ra Gusela (2595 meters high), Torre Anna (2450 meters high) and mountain Nuvolau, with a great view on Passo Giau and mountains on the other side of the valley. The trail is never steep and climbs in a gorgeous environment and for these reasons you can enjoy it in complete relaxation.

This hike will surely remain carved in your heart and soul forever ! So don’t miss it at all.
