Val Vogna
Rifugio Abate Carestia
The hike to the Abbot Carestia refuge, located in the Risuolo valley in Val Vogna, is one of the most beautiful climbs in the upper Valsesia.
Starting from the hamlet of Ca di Janzo (1354 meters), you continue on a simple and mostly flat path, enjoying the view of the Vogna torrent that, over the centuries, has carved out a deep canyon in which it flows. Once you reach a crossroads, the path turns right, climbing steeply to the Carestia refuge (2201 meters).
Once you reach your destination, you can enjoy a magnificent view of Val Vogna that ranges from the Sottile hospice (2480 meters), passing by Alpe Larecchio (1895 meters) up to Riva Valdobbia. From here you can also admire the sinuosity of the Vogna torrent that flows wedged in its canyons.
Continuing along the path and leaving the Carestia refuge behind, you come across Alpe Rissuolo (2264 meters) to quickly reach the Bianco lake (2332 meters), a poetic alpine lake surrounded by mossy meadows and imposing peaks: an environment that gives serenity and tranquility to those who sit near its banks.
Continuing along the path you can reach the Nero lake and, finally, Corno Bianco (3320 meters), an imposing peak that dominates Val Vogna and Valsesia.
