Ricetto di Candelo Piemonte

Ricetto di Candelo

Ricetto di Candelo - Biella Piemonte

Ricetto di Candelo is an unbelievable hamlet located in Biella district within Piemonte region. The origins of name Ricetto indicate a warehouse with defensive structures. Something like a fortress used mainly for storing and defending valuable goods.

Ricetto is characterized by defensive walls with towers built at each corner and battlements. These walls encompassed several small buildings, once used as warehouses for agricultural products. Rarely and only for short periods (especially during wars), Ricetto was exploited as shelter for people.

For the reasons above described, within the defensive walls of Ricetto di Candelo, there are no large houses or palaces inhabited by powerful and famous families, but nowadays only little Botteghe (tiny shops) where agricultural and handcrafted products are sold, or used as little workshops for artists such as painters or sculptors.

First evidences of Ricetto di Candelo date back to year 1374 when the name of the hamlet was mentioned in an official document, and it has to be underlined that buildings in this site were made with very poor materials, mainly stones, bricks and wood.

Visiting Ricetto di Candelo is a unique experience, because you are projected into the past when economy and lifestyle were very basic.
