Pietra di Bismantova - Emilia Romagna

Among the hills of Reggio Emilia stands an amazing rock spike called Pietra di Bismantova, it is located in the Apennines and it’s 1 km long, 300 m high and 240 m wide.

It was formed 15 million years ago, this is what paleontologists established after their vegetation studies, this is unbelievable…!

This stone seems a big vessel and its shape is the reason why it became so famous and important among the inhabitants. Actually it’s a real emblem of these places for its uniqueness and representativeness. Moreover, when the mountaineering practice was spreading in Emilia Romagna, Pietra di Bismantova became one of the most popular climbing walls of the region. Of course you can also reach the summit by foot, starting from an agritourism called “Foresteria”, it is not a long walk cause it takes 45 minutes to get on the top and the path is very easy, suitable also for children.

On the top of the stone you will enjoy an amazing view on the green and gentle hills, BBOI team suggests you also to stop at the agritourism called Foresteria and to take there a lunch break once back from the walk, so that you can taste some emilian dishes like tortelli and gnocco fritto!

Do you wanna discover also an interesting curiosity? Pietra di Bismantova is mentioned also in the Divide Comedy by Dante Alighieri as the Purgatory moutain where you can find Eden Garden on the top!
