Lago di Sant'Elena - Val di Rhemes

Here in Best and Beauty of Italy we are always looking for remote and lonely places  where the power of the nature shows all its strength and beauty.

Hence if you are after something that is overwhelming, a shock, you cannot miss Lago di Sant’Elena (2696 meters) a place with glaciers and a fantastic lake surrounded by a wild mountain called Granta Parey.

At the end of Val di RhemesValle d’Aosta region – close to French border, there is Lago di Sant’Elena dominated by the huge vertical face of Granta Parey with its top of 3387 meters of altitude.

Of course Lago di Sant’Elena has its origin from the surrounding glaciers named Ghiacciaio di Sant’Elena, Ghiacciaio di Lavassey, Ghiacciaio di Fond and their shrinkage has left a huge amount of gravel, stones and boulders. Hence the environment is very harsh, an unforgettable beauty with the view of glaciers.

Before reaching Lago di Sant’Elena the path goes through Rifugio Benevolo. During summer this shelter is crowed, but from this point on you will find only loneliness and an unspoiled nature. Furthermore the path becomes more difficult and in a specific part it overcomes a vertical overhang.
