Spalti di Toro - BBofItaly

Lago di Barcis – Sauris

From Barcis lake to Sauris hamlet – Friuli

Friuli is a region located in the easternmost part of Italy. It borders Austria to the north and Slovenia to the east. In the northern part of this region there are the Dolomiti del Friuli (Friuli Dolomites), a gorgeous mountain range. Its southern part is faced to Adriatico sea.

Our journey starts from lago di Barcis and it winds along a fantastic road where you can admire splendid landscape on Friuli Dolomites. Barcis lake is an artificial basin located in Valcellina, where there is also a gorgeous gorge (Cellina gorge) that is worth a visit.

The road then crosses the Cadore area in the Belluno district, on the border between Friuli and Veneto regions. Here at Domegge di Cadore village, we spent two nights in the fantastic B&B called SognoInCadore.

This little building has been completely refurbished, maintaining its original mountain style. Wood was used extensively in the renovations, and therefore the atmosphere is reminiscent of the historic homes present in that part of Italy.

Last but not least the breakfast is delicious with cakes and pastries homemade by the owner Monica who wears traditional local dresses while she is serving her guests. Anyway when you are at Domegge di Cadore don’t forget to visit Spalti di Toro, a gorgeous mountain range.

From Domegge di Cadore we reached Sauris di Sopra, a hamlet where we admired wonderful landscapes and rambled in immense pine forests. Must be underlined that Friuli region is usually not crowed, so you can enjoy these particular and gorgeous places.
