Lago del Truzzo

In the Drogo valley – a lateral valley of the most famous Valchiavenna in Sondrio district – lies a fantastic and ancient dam which generated lake of Truzzo immersed in a gorgeous and pristine environment.

This dam dates back to the twenties of precedent century, when the new Italian historical era of Fascismo required more energy for the development of the new industry. The material needed for the construction, was carried via a cable car and in the last part of the run via a little railway named Decauville.

For service and management reasons, the dam was served by a very particular mule track. The slope of this track is constant and never steep. The pavement is well made to facilitate the passage of mules and workers. Nowadays this mule track still exists and used by the hikers to get the lake of Truzzo.

The altitude of the dam is 2080 meters and as mentioned before, it is immersed in a fantastic and pristine environment. Surrounded by the most beautiful peaks located on the border with Switzerland, lake of Truzzo allows you to enjoy one of the most gorgeous Alpine landscape.

The hike to lake of Truzzo is technically easy, but you have to overcome a level of 900 meters, starting from Scanabecco village, so it is physically demanding. When you reach the lake you can visit the Carlo Emilio shelter.
