Le Barmé de l'Ours

Rhemes Saint Georges is a small and beautiful village in Val di Rhemes (Valle d’Aosta region). This valley one of the most beautiful in Valle d’Aosta, is oriented to south and its final zone with Granta Parey mountain (3387 meters) is on the border with France.

In the first part of Val di Rhemes near Introd, another fantastic village in Aosta valley, Rhemes Saint Georges is located and in this hamlet there is a special restaurant called Le Barmè de l’Ours which in English means the cave of the bear where cave is intended as wine cellar.

This restaurant is special because can offer several Segale based dishes of course plus other local food. Rye is a cereal widely used in Valle d’Aosta in ancient times for the production of black bread.

So for example a first course as “Segalotto al ragù di cinghiale e pesto di fiori di zucchina” or “Tagliatelle all’ortica lievitate alla Segale su crema di patate e porri all’artemisia” and a second course as “Costata di Manzo in crosta di Segale” can be enjoyed.

Very important of course is the wine drank during the dinner. It has been chosen a local type called Fumin and produced by L’Atouéyo farm located in Aymavilles (Valle d’Aosta region) which makes the so called “vino di montagna” (mountain wine). This type of wine has very special flavours and in particular Fumin tastes as if it is lightly smoked, hence an unforgettable experience together with dishes of Le Barmé de l’Ours !
