Gole del Sagittario - Abruzzo
Gole del Sagittario (Sagittario gorges) – located in the Abruzzo region, Aquila district – are stunning and surrounded by a gorgeous environment carved out by the Sagittario river.
In this territory, numerous wild animals, such as wolves and bears, find their natural habitat. Gole del Sagittario are also characterized by the presence of Eremo di San Domenico (San Domenico hermitage).
The location of this small building is amazing. You can get there through a small bridge that crosses the Sagittario river and from there you can enjoy a fantastic view of this natural beauty.
The Eremo di San Domenico was originally (year 1000) a small cave in the mountain used by San Domenico di Sora. In the XV century it was transformed into a small chapel.
The last one is characterized by a portico built in the XVII century and over the years has been enriched with several frescoes and paintings. In the surroundings there is also the possibility of going for some very interesting hiking, which we at BBOfItaly highly recommend!
