Ghiacciaio del Fellaria - Valmalenco

Are you thinking to “trade in” two of your normal vacation days with a super special experience ? You must visit the area where Ghiacciaio del Fellaria is located ! It is on Bernina, a mountainous group on the border between Lombardia region – Sondrio district – and Switzerland (4048 meters the altitude of its highest peak).

In the Italian area – southern area of Bernina group -, there are three main glaciers: Ghiacciaio del Fellaria, Ghiacciaio del Scerscern, Ghiacciaio di Caspoggio. The latter is the smallest of the three.

Starting from Lanzada – a little hamlet in Valmalenco – it is possible to reach Lago di Alpe Gera where you can find the path to Rifugio Bignami. From this shelter another path to Ghiacciaio del Fellaria climbs on the mountain, reaching the frontend of this huge mass of ice.

This frontend is literally hanging up to a big rocky jump, and observing it you can even see huge boulders of ice falling, generating what is normally known as a dead glacier.

The environment is savage, awesome and unbelievable. A pure and unspoiled wilderness ! Glaciers always show the power and strength of the nature even by observing the huge amount of gravel and stones carried by their eternal and slow movement.

At BBofItaly we hope you are eager to have this awesome experience and visiting this glacier. A show you cannot miss !
