“Cristo degli abissi” dive (Christ of the abyss)

The Portofino promontory offert some of the most magnificent diving sites of Italy. Some of the sites are situated in a protected marine park area that permit to preserve the marine species and always offer a spectacular views.

This particular dive is of great religious importance due to the presence on the seabed of the statue of Christ of the Abyss; the first of its kind placed under the sea surface

The statue is more thant 2,5 meter tall, from 13 meter of depth on the top part, to 17 meter of depth on the bottom part of the base.
The upper part often appears surrounded by banks of brown damselfish. Other fish are rarely found there and even more rarely some brown grouper.
The base appears covered with green algae. Large schools of banded bream can swim around it.
