Castello Ducale di Agliè

Castello Ducale di Agliè is located in Piemonte region more precisely in Aglié village – Canavese zone. This land had a strategic position in the ancient past, because it was close to the border with France. So in Canavese are present a lot of castles, some of them well conserved others completely abandoned.

The Agliè one is perfectly restored but more important in its rooms there are still a lot of original furniture with artworks and it has a fantastic park. Find an ancient castle with its original furniture is very difficult, considering also that them are really treasures because were completely handmade by craft men of those periods. For this reason this kind of furniture were stolen or even destroyed during the several wars that in the ancient past continuously devastated and divided Italy in little states dominated by powerful families.

Castle origin comes from XII century. During the following years, as always happened, Castello Ducale di Agliè was possessed by several noble families which left the building each other by descent or political wedding. In those periods the castle structure was continuously modified and also its furniture was upgraded and changed following the fashion of those years and the will of the family that possessed the building. It must be considered that the furniture and artwork beauty were a way to show the power and the richness of the family, and because of this beauty Castello Ducale di Agliè is a must that cannot be missed.

In 1939 the castle become an Italian state property, and from that period it has been continuously restored and perfectly managed, giving the opportunity to visit something unbelievable for its uniqueness.
