Castellina in Chianti – Toscana

Castellina in Chianti - Toscana

BBOI team wants to introduce you this ancient small town of Etruscans origins, located in the middle of Chianti area in Tuscany.

Castellina in Chianti was even more important during the Reinassance because of its strategic position between Senia and Florence, indeed you can see also in the pictures the stronghold.

Under its ancient walls runs an underground gallery, named Via delle Volte, where you can find artisan shops and restaurant. This street is typical of the Medieval Age, it was built for further fortify the town, but the incredible and interesting thing is that it was designed by the great architect Filippo Brunelleschi!

The main street is not that long however is so pretty and cozy with all those food shops, wine shops and boutiques. There is also a little square with a Church as you can see in the pictures, it dates back to 1400 but was rebuilt in a perfect typical Tuscan style.

BBOI team has also found an amazing restaurant where you can have your lunch or dinner: Taverna Squarcialupi. Here you can find all the typical tuscan dishes and an excellent wine produced by their cellar. It is also possible to visit the cellar during you dinner because it’s situated under the restaurant and it is always open…what a lovely thing! It’s good to know that Squarcialupi in the name of an ancient family who settled here in 1200, this place breathes so much history.

In this beautiful restaurant we decided to taste pici with ragù, a typical homemade tuscan pasta, and the king of the meat: FIORENTINA. We also had two glasses of different wines: Chianti Classico Riserva 2014 and Gran Selezione Chianti Classico 2015, they were both absolutely delicious and so full bodied and tannic.

BBOI team suggest you to take half a day to visit this small town, buy some souvenirs and bottles of wine in the boutiques and have dinner in this welcoming atmosphere tasting good food.
