Capanna Monza - Lombardia

Erve is a little village located in Valle San MartinoLecco district in Lombardia region. It is dominated by Resegone, one of the most iconic mountain in Prealpi Lombarde.

Resegone has several peaks and for this reason especially during winter time with snow and blue sky, it is very scenic particularly if you see this mountain when you go towards Lecco starting from Milano.

Before reaching the hamlet, the road climbs an incredible gully carved over the centuries by the Gallavesa stream. Then it enters in the last part of Valle San Martino where it ends in Erve. Before the construction of this road (first part of the XX century), Erve was practically isolated, because it was reachable only by a very hard path which climbed the gully.

Valle San Martino is closed by Resegone, a mountain characterized by very high and vertical walls. This mountain is not very high (1875 meters of altitude for its highest peak called Cermenati), but reaching the top is a challenging adventure even if you climb the “normal path”… and this will be another story of BBofItaly to tell.

In the little square where the road stops at the end of Erve, the path starts to reach Rifugio Alpinisti Monzesi (shortly Capanna Monza). This shelter is located at an altitude of 1150 meters, below the vertical rocky walls of Resegone and from it the “normal path” starts to reach the top of Resegone.

The path to Capanna Monza runs along Valle San Martino, but at a certain point it splits in two different branches. One easy but longer, the other shorter but more challenging and obviously we at BBofItaly have decided to tackle the more demanding one !

First part of this path climbs around a spur and it is very steep. In several sections you must overcame little vertical jumps even using hands. At the end of this first part the path enters in a zone called Prà di Ratt (meadow of rats) and from this point on you have not further difficulties to reach Capanna Monza under the vertical rocky walls of Resegone mountain.
