Campo Imperatore by winter - Abruzzo
An astonishing place characterized by a pristine nature, which takes on a particular charm during the winter season, is Campo Imperatore and visiting it during winter season is an unique experience. Snow and clouds make it a magic place !
It is a vast plateau which lays down at an altitude between 1500 – 2000 meters in the Aquila district – Abruzzo region. Its origins come from ancient glaciers (15000 years ago !) and in this place you can enjoy incredible landscapes.
Campo Imperatore has a mountain range whose main massif is called Gran Sasso. This rocky mountain is characterized by vertical and huge faces. Its highest peak is named Corno Grande with 2912 meters of altitude.
The fauna of Campo Imperatore – a national park – is characterized by the presence of bears but mainly by wolfs. Ostello Campo Imperatore is worth visiting. This is a shelter at 2000 meters of altitude where there are also the remains of an old cabin cable station, which can be visited by tourists.
Due to its wide flat lands, meadows and pastures located at the foot of gorgeous mountain ranges, Campo Imperatore is also called “little Tibet”. There aren’t big forests here, so the view is always open showing immense and gorgeous sceneries.
Here below you can admire some of these sceneries and the old cabin cable once used to get Ostello Campo Imperatore located just below the mighty Gran Sasso massif.
