Bivacco Ravelli Grande Rousse - Valle D'Aosta

Grande Rousse is a mountain range embedded in the watershed of Valgrisenche and Val di Rhemes. The peaks present on the Grande Rousse range are: Grande Rousse Nord (3607 meters high), Grande Rousse Sud (3516 meters high), Punta Tina (3509 meters high), Punta di Barmaverain (3475 meters high), Cima di Fos (3449 meters high).

We at BBofItaly were very eager to reached Bivacco Ravelli (2860 meters high) located at the foot of Grande Rousse Nord and encompassed in a staggering environment. Getting this site is a blast and it is a big experience considering also that Valgrisenche is called “little Canada” for its wild beauty!

The first part of the path wings through a forest where there are some centuries old pines, very high and with a big diameter. At the end of this part the path enters in a green little valley with wonderful meadows whence Grand Rousse range shows all its beauty.

After passing a big spur, you enter in an incredible environment dominated by the big wall of Grande Rousse Nord. This place is characterized by the presence of huge moraines left by shrunk glaciers that come down from the mountain range.

The path wings on the edge of one of these moraines and running up reaches the little Bivacco Ravelli, dominated by the huge wall of Grande Rousse Nord. Unbelievable!

Spending time in this place admiring the environment, from time to time you can observe big stones rolling down from the walls of the mountain ridge you have in front of you. This is due to the summer temperature that melts ice. Furthermore in front of Grande Rousse Nord you can admire an awesome landscape over Vallone di San Grato which is a wonderful side valley of the greater Valgrisenche.
