Unknown Assisi - Umbria
Assisi is a village located in the Perugia district – Umbria region – among smooth hills covered with vineyards, cypresses and olive trees.
Assisi is well-known, because it is the place where San Francesco lived and founded the Ordine Francescano, one of the most famous Catholic orders around the world.
Some of the most famous churches and cathedrals you can visit in Assisi are the Basilica di San Francesco, Cattedrale di San Rufino and Basilica di Santa Chiara.
In addition to the numerous churches and places linked to the Catholic religion, you can also admire some artistic masterpieces by Giotto and Simone Martini.
But we would like to highlight the lesser-known part of Assisi. So, it would be a shame not to visit the most hidden and suggestive medieval alleys of Assisi. They are full of shops, flowers, fountains, and small restaurants where you can taste excellent products such as meat, salami, cheese and fine wines. A romantic lunch in one of these typical restaurants is a must!
Near Assisi there is also Parco del Mounte Subasio which offers numerous paths suitable for all abilities and from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the surroundings environment, with breathtaking landscapes especially at sunset.
Don’t leave Umbria without visiting another fantastic village just 12 km from Assisi: Spello, one of the most picturesque and flowery villages in Italy.
